This page discusses how to configure the Zebra stripes facility on the Sony A7R V for the RAW shooter. It should work as well on other cameras with Zebra.
JPEG shooters can also use the Zebra feature, but the guidance here is intended for optimal ETTR captures in RAW as per Perfect ETTR at ISO 50/100 with Zebra.
I have used the Zebra stripes enough now to express confidence that used as described here, you can easily obtain optimal ETTR exposures.
