Color to Monochrome: Simple Conversions

This page covers the single-command conversions of a color image to monochrome in Adobe Photoshop. There are several available techniques including:

All of these techniques can produces excellent results for some images, but they forgo control over the tonal mapping from color to grayscale. That is there is no control over the grayscale relationships based on color differences, other than the default algorithm. See the other pages for techniques that offer more control.
