Zeiss ZF.2 21mm f/2.8 Distagon T*

Examples Climbing Mt Dana in Yosemite

This series of images tells a short story of my October 5, 2009 climb up Mt Dana. All images were shot handheld, taking brief pauses during the ascent. There is a brief narrative about each picture for aspects of the climb, and also image comments.

RAW-file Processing

I batch-processed these images generically using Nikon View NX 1.5.2, because Nikon Capture NX2 would not function, hanging forever while previewing a single NEF file on my “monster” Mac Pro (repeated attempts met with failure, then the next day the problem corrected itself).

For that reason, I applied crude white balance (or left it alone), and sharpening in Photoshop afterwards.

It also led to a side-effect: Nikon’s Lateral Color Aberration Correction was used, which corrects out any color fringing. The 21/2.8 Distagon is extremely well-corrected for color fringing, but it is not absent: see the actual pixels crops from the first image below for an example with/without correction.
