Really Right Stuff Plate with Grip for Olympus OM-D E-M5
I just received the Really Right Stuff BOEM5-L base plate (for tripod mounting) and the grip component. The setup is pretty slick: base plate only, with optional BOEM5-G grip and optional left-side “L” bracket (also for tripod mounting).
The parts are available in black or silver to match your black or silver E-M5.
The finger cutouts on the grip are very well designed, interacting perfectly with the small thumbgrip that is built into the E-M5.
My only minor gripe (as I’ve noted in the past) is that high quality parts made of aluminum are also *cold* parts at sub-freezing temps. Sometimes plastic ain’t so bad. Thin gloves are the solution.
The base plate incorporates a dovetailed base for mounting in Arca-Swiss style tripod ballheads or similar.
Adding the optional “L” allows native mounting in a vertical position, much more stable than flopping the tripod head over.

Crazy! Take a beautifully small camera and add a donut to it! Nah.
DIGLLOYD: A solid grip can transform a camera for some shooting situations, which is not to say that adding a grip is always desirable.
Nor that I particularly enjoy emails which seem to be brain farts, concretely bound to one shooting situation and ignoring other goals, such as tripod mounting or the risks of dropping the camera or how a base plate can protect the camera (the grip is optional).
