Fuji Finepix X100 Now In Hand For Review

Thanks to B&H Photo, I now have the Fuji Finepix X100 in for review in DAP.

My pre-shooting impressions (battery still charging)—

Packaging is of a similar style to the Leica M9: camera in its own compartmental box structure. It looks well done, feels like something of quality is inside.

The X100 feels not unlike a Leica M9, but it is less heavy, less beefy (good!).

One thing I immediately noticed is that the dials do not lock, and the slowest shutter speed before being forced to T or B is 1/8 second. This is a pity, because I often shoot in the 1/4 to 30 second range when shooting outdoors. Presumably auto exposure is one alternative, but T and B are a nuisance.

It took me 10 minutes to attach the silly strap with its triangular rings and protector tabs —Fuji even supplies a special tool— no biggie, but these guys should take a look at what OpTech has to offer.

Update! I shot the X100 before the weather turned nasty and cold today— I like it already. While it shoots nicely, it does have some usability issues, such as dials that turn themselves by accident. Image quality looks excellent and I’ll start by posting some samples with commentary.
