Leica 90mm f/2 APO-Summicron-R ASPH on Sony A7R: Leaves on Creek Aperture Series

In Guide to Leica I explore the imaging quality of the Leica 90mm f/2 APO-Summicron-R ASPH on the 36-megapixel Sony A7R. The “R” version shares the same optical design as the 90mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH. One might reasonably ask why shooting a 24-megapixel Leica M240 that costs $5000 more makes any sense at all for such a high-end lens. Especially with a grossly inferior EVF on the M240.

Mirrorless platforms continue to grow in depth and breadth. As always, a coherent approach means that native lenses stick to their cameras, and specialty lenses stick to their respective publications.
