Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Aperture Series: View Over Beaver Pond Down Canyon (Nikon Z8)

The page demonstrates that the Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2S has one of the most destructive focus shift behaviors I have ever encountered in 15 years of evaluating gear. Bi-directional too.

The behavior is so destructive that I thought something had gone wrong with the series. But examining other series, exactly the same behavior jumps out.

I offer an explanation of of why this behavior seems to be by design, making the lens an expensive paperweight for too many of the shooting situations I encounter.
