I was curious how fast ACR AI Denoise would be on my 2019 iMac 5K.
Turns out that 8GB of video memory is not enough—AI Denoise crashes on the very first file every time (100 megapixel Fujifilm RAF, and I asked it to batch process 100 of them).
Or rather, I think it cannot do more than one or two files simultaneously and attempting to do so crashes hard (black screen, hard reboot required). My guess is that just a few files of that size eat up all 8GB of video card memory.
Such is the state of GPUs and why the unified memory of the Apple M1/M2 Max/Ultra is leaps and bounds superior to any Intel solutions—that 192GB that I have in my 2023 Mac Pro M2 Ultra and 64GB in the 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max far outstrips high-end video cards!
That said, macOS Ventura + 2023 Mac Pro M2 Ultra have some serious problems; see the following:
