Fujifilm GFX100 II: EVF Enjoyment, Operational Oh My!, older GFX100S Enervates
Wow! That EVF in the Fujifilm GFX100 II changes the feel of the camera so much!
GFX100 II is much more enjoyable to shoot: I can tell *exactly* what is in focus, I can see what is sharp or not, etc. It makes the GFX100S/100 EVF feel like a shitty kid's toy (which it and is for 5 year now, I never did like it from day 1).
Side by side is "what a beautiful scene" vs "looks like shit, please don’t make me shoot this camera anymore". Psychologically matters! That 1X magnification with 9.44 megadots has no peer on the market today. The EVF thing fogs all too easily though, a real issue when it’s freezing out.
No way I can go back to the GFX100S given the EVF.
And the responsiveness of the GFX100 II is faster on everything particularly on crucial features, like scrolling in image review, where it is now blazingly fast and that’s no small matter for the way I shoot.
Sadly though, the same stupid and easily fixable Fujifilm usability issues are all the same—not one behavioral stupidity is fixed.
It’s going to be almost all field work and not much publishing for 10 days or so, so please be patient.
It was 25°F after the storm that blew in, a hint of real winter to come and last year’s snow at 10500' on up is still there on north sides. Another year like last and the crushing snow is going to make a nuisance of itself in too many canyons I like.
Below, the crisp morning after the cold storm (25°F overnight, about 15°F warmer than in 2019, to within 1 day).
