Marmot Jawbone
You really do not want a marmot chewing inside your engine compartment... that front incisor is at least an inch in length. I once had a marmot take up residence in the engine compartment of my Sprinter van. Luckily I was there and heard it rustling, and before it started chewing. It was not going to leave of its own accord, not even with the hood open(“hey how's it goin'?”). So I started the engine and made it uncomfortable and it left. But what if I had been away on a hike all day?
I once spotted a marmot with my ears—it had chewed a 6-inch hole up and through the seat of a SnoCat—I could hear it chewing 20 feet away! Up it pops in the cab of the SnoCat, looking pleased with itself in its new room with a view.
I estimate that 95% of the marmot population at 10000+ feet in the White Mountains died during the winter of 2022/2023.
