Sony A7R V: Sony Remote Commander RMT-P1BT Fails to Work After Pairing

See also Sony.com: Pairing the Remote Commander with the camera.

UPDATE 2023-01-30: a praise and callout for Sony Pro Services , which had me send in my Sony A1 to check out this issue.

UPDATE 2024-02-04: the last firmware updated improved the menus to be less confusing. Now the two related functions are in the same submenu:

Network => Bluetooth => Bluetooth Function = On
Network => Bluetooth => Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl = On
Network => Bluetooth => Pairing = <pair the remote>

...

The upshot: I did everything right, except one key thing: after the effort to pair the remote in the Bluetooth menu, you must also *enable* the remote in a bizarre, unrelated submenu:

In addition to:

Network => Bluetooth => Bluetooth Function = On
Network => Bluetooth => Pairing = <pair the remote>

Why Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl is not in the Bluetooth menu is baffling—if it’s paired there and Bluetooth is turned on there, why in heck is the remote enabled in an entirely different menu?

Well, this is frustrating...

Pairing Sony A7R V to Sony RMT-P1BT

I’ve successfully paired (according to the Sony A7R V) the Sony Remote Commander RMT-P1BT six times now.

Yet the RMT-P1BT just blinks, indicating that it thinks it is not paired, and does not operate the camera. It has a fresh battery.

I don’t know if this is something peculiar to my RMT-P1BT, or a general issue involving the Sony A7R V.
