Greenstone Lake Drainage to Saddlebag Lake, Clearing Storm, Oct 2 2023

Panoramas sometimes drive me crazy with problems at join points, for reasons I do not understand. It seems to stem mainly from differing image size at center vs edges, made worse by distortion correction (not done here). This panorama joined up almost perfectly however. I’ve also found that spherical and cylindrical projects generally SUCK, producing mush results, so I stick to my technique as shown in Assembling Panorama from Multiple Images.

A 290-megapixel 4-frame panorama... sometimes a panorama does things justice. Here, the wide span of view captures how the place feels, and on this glorious day too.

Greenstone Lake gathers the waters of the Conness Lakes basin (east of Mt Conness) and part of the Twenty Lakes Basin, then empties into Saddlebag Lake which then dumps out into Lee Vining Creek which fills Ellery Lake, which then resumes its course. Mt Dan is seenin the far distance just left of the cliffs.

Below, this 396-megapixel panorama has multiple issues in joining, but it is acceptable... and so huge that who is going to notice anyway. The water is the main trouble; it is not possible to get a clean merge because of wave action that changes in a fraction of a second and/or reflections that vary continually. But there were issues in joining across the peaks, minimized with a few tricks.
