Shooting at Dusk: f/1.8 vs f/2.8 (D810, Egg Erratic)

This pair of images taken at f/1.8 and f/2.8 shows not just lens performance in sharpness terms, but the total visual effect.

Night shooting at distance 2014-10-29 18:40

Both images processed identically. However, the f/2.8 image was made about 90 seconds after the f/1.8 image, and thus the lighting was changing significantly at very late / very dim dusk. Still, the f/2.8 image has a bright sky.

Images matched at center for luminance to within 1 point.

f/1.8 @ 8 sec, f/2.8 @ 30 sec.
