Conclusions

The Nikon 24mm f/1.4G shows outstanding image quality with little or no field curvature at distance, ultra low distortion and very well controlled vignetting.

Overall image quality as seen on the Mosaic comparison shows a first-rate lens that Nikon can be proud of, with instant autofocus as well. Surely this will be in the bag for those two reasons, but also for its exceptionally low distortion.

Image quality at f/1.4 is a bit low in contrast, but most impressive is that the lower contrast is far superior to most other f/1.4 designs of any focal length. Very, very impressive.

Autofocus spoiler

My sample was simply not trustworthy for autofocus— see the Autofocus Conclusions page.
