Nikon AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G

Examples: Ad Hoc (D800E, Fruit and Yard)

Examples the first evening as the light faded.

The hallmark of the Nikon 58/1.4G is a creamy rendering at f/1.4 with an overall contrast that is moderately high for coarse structures combined with very modest micro contrast (contrast for fine structures). This is a good combination that offers a pleasant feel overall.

Further, the smoothness and consistency of the effect extends to the edges and corners without gaining oddball effects that could prove distracting. Combined, the two effects are likely to have great appeal to photographers looking for a certain classic style. It is quite possible an perhaps even likely that Nikon left contrast moderate and certain aberrations in place so as to contribute to this style.

Images converted from raw using Adobe Camera Raw. The choice of camera profile (Adobe Standard vs Camera Standard) has a substantial influence on the contrast of the image.
