Leica 50mm f/2 Summicron-M

This short photo essay was shot on a Memorial Day celebration at the national military cemetery in San Bruno, CA. The flags are put up by volunteers for the day on thousands of gravestones.

Apertures on this page marked with a ~ character are “best guess” from memory and the camera’s recorded guess— the M9 does not and cannot know the aperture at which the exposure is made. The notation ~f/8 means “f/8 or thereabouts”. When that notation is missing the '~', it means the exact aperture actually used.

Assembly

This scene shows off the extreme precision of the 50/2 Summicron-M. The low distortion keeps the lines of gravestones looking correct, not warped, and the flags on each remain visible into the distance.
