Distortion at 16mm, 18mm, 21mm

Distortion is of the wave type, generally unavoidable in an extreme wide angle design.

Overview

Barrel distortion is seen over the central 3/4 of the frame, reversing to accelerating pincushion distortion beyond that— a wave-type pattern readily visible on man-made structures, such as the front of a building or a fence or a horizon. The pattern is the same for all focal lengths.

Distortion is greatest at 16mm, decreasing at 18mm and decreasing further at 21mm, where it is quite low in the context of a 21mm lens, and little different from the 21mm f/3.4 Super-Elmar-M ASPH.
