Leica 21mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH

Distortion: 21/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH

Distortion is of the wave type, unavoidable at this focal length for a fast lens (see the Leica 21mm f/3.4 Super-Elmar-M and the Zeiss ZM 21/4.5 Biogon).

Barrel distortion proceeds over the central 2/3 of the frame, reversing to accelerating pincushion distortion beyond that.

This level of distortion is noticeable on buildings and straight horizons, in spite of Leica’s assertions about it being “negligible”, which is a comment relative to the difficulties of making a 21mm lens.

Distortion is in line with most other 21mm lenses, and not much different from the 24mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH.
