Distortion and Distortion Correction
Correction for distortion is flagged in the EXIF as required. Adobe Camera Raw enforces the EXIF flag for distortion correction (no choice). This guarantees loss of sharpness even if the lens is otherwise excellent.
* The use of distortion correction for barrel distortion causes stretching in outer zones that crops-off some portions of the frame (watch the window frame at left disappear). The stretching results in loss of micro contrast and detail, effectively reducing resolving power. Real-time distortion correction by the camera hides this optical fact, but is a good thing, since you otherwise would not get the image you thought you had framed.
