Leica S2 medium format DSLR

Comparison: Leica S2 vs Nikon D3x (3D)

The 24 megapixels Nikon D3x is an incredible camera. Its color gamut, dynamic range, ultra clean blacks, high ISO performance and high resolution don’t even have a close second in the DSLR area (Canon 1D Mark IV (DAP) is closest), and even some medium format cameras are hard-pressed to provide such a lovely balance of attributes, and can do so only at 5X the price.

In my view, almost nothing can beat the color and dynamic range of the D3x outdoors, and its advantages are startling in the worst light when compared to other DSLRs. And in the best light, it offers lovely results.

But putting the S2 up against the D3x is eminently fair, because the S2 is triple the price, and has 50% more resolution. And realistically, the S2 is a very logical camera to consider when one wants “more”.
