Nikon provides computed MTF (not measured) MTF at a low resolution of 30 line pairs per mm (lp/mm). Thus the claimed MTF is fantasy MTF not based on a real lens, not measured from a real lens, and not comparable to the 40 lp/mm provided by companies like Zeiss. It is thus not very instructive as to real-world performance. MTF charts at 30 lp/mm are far less demanding than at 40 lp/mm, and Nikon does not provide 40 lp/mm charts.
The MTF chart shows outstanding central performance that rolls off gently to the outer zones.
