Sigma DP-1 Merrill

Aperture Series DP1 Merrill (Dolls)

This page shows the performance of lens plus camera at fairly close range across the f/2.8 - f/16— sharpness, effects of diffraction, general image quality.

However, this is not a good full-frame assessment of the lens, because image detail spans only a portion of the frame. The main interest is the potential of the sensor at its best, hence the central area is the primary consideration.

The SD1 Merrill was focused manually using the zoom-in Live View feature and this seems to have delivered an accurate focus, though in use the precise focus seems a bit elusive.

Test scene

At 28mm, the nodal slider used for precise focus adjustments protrudes into the scene at bottom, but this area is of no interest anyway.
