This controlled comparison took over three hours to shoot to my satisfaction (shoot, reshoot, reshoot, ... Difficulties included focusing where desired, focus accuracy and focus shift, differing mounting solutions, and ensuring optimal exposure for each camera.

Focusing in particular was a challenge: the dp2 Quattro and DP2 Merrill offer a small focus spot, but on a coarsely spaced grid, forcing recomposition after focusing, quite a nuisance in attempting a match (and changing the focal plane slightly!) Even manual focus was a challenge for the accuracy needed; the magnified view is so-so at 8X for discriminating fine differences in focus and it is inexplicably and modally restricted to only the focus point in effect when entering magnified view. Perfect focus matching is rarely achievable, but the images are very well matched.
