Aperture Series @ 17mm: Big Tree at Bend in Alpine Creek

This aperture series at 17mm shows one of the most bizarre performances that I’ve ever seen from a lens: massive focus shift sufficient to change the image magnification (aperture breathing) along with a resoundingly different sharpness on the left side versus the right, which looks to be lens skew, as confirmed by the same results at 14mm and 21mm.
All signs point to a lens design having magnificent potential performance, but the left/right focusing skew seen here is unacceptable. The Sony A7R IV has gone in for a checkup to rule it out as the culprit, e.g., lens mount / sensor parallelism.
