The Sony Cybershot DSC- RX100 produces 20-megapixel images (5472 X 3648) images from a 13.2 X 8.8 mm sensor. Unlike most compact cameras, this is a 3:2 aspect ratio, the same as a DSLR, and differing from Micro Four Thirds at 4:3.
Remarkably, the Sony RX100 form factor is that of a point and shoot camera, BUT with high image quality (color, noise) in spite of its high resolution on a modest sensor size.
Depth of field
Compared to a full-frame DSLR, the Sony RX100 offers (because of its smaller sensor), depth of field approximately 2.7 stops more than a full-frame DSLR. Hence, f/4 on the RX100 should deliver (almost) the same depth of field as f/11 on a full-frame DSLR.
