This page chooses examples for the best brilliance and best lighting, to show off the core property of the Zeiss 21/2.8 Distagon: high brilliance. Accordingly, many of the images are shot in the intermediate aperture range, which leaves them a bit short on depth of field, but maintains brilliance, with f/9 already having less of a “pop” due to diffraction. In reviewing the alternative apertures, your author’s eye was consistently drawn to one aperture over others, even if it had less depth of field. Visual impact counts more than absolute sharpness in many cases and for this type of images full of sparkle and light, the eye responds accordingly.
