Is the Ricoh GR a Better 28mm camera than a Leica M with 28mm Lens?

Published in my review of the Ricoh GR in Guide to Mirrorless is an editorial essay on the relative merits of the Ricoh GR (28mm equiv fixed lens) relative to the Leica M Typ 240 with Leica 28mm lens.

Is the Ricoh GR a 28mm Leica Replacement? See also Ricoh GR Lens MTF Analysis.

I own the Ricoh GR and the Leica M Typ 240 and both of the Leica 28mm lenses, so this is not a debate on which to buy, not for me at least. Rather, it is an in-depth reflection on field use and actual results.

The camera world is changing fast, and this essay is critical reading for anyone considering the huge cost of the Leica M system. It is neither right nor wrong, but a perspective that I feel is a revelation of the true state of the art, and one whose intent is as always, to serve my readers in making their own choice appropriate to their needs.

Get the Ricoh GR or Leica M at B&H Photo.
