Get Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II at B&H Photo.
This page looks at medium range performance with far-field blur under blue mountain light (dusk), a challenging test for any lens, particularly on the 50-megapixel Canon 5DS R, which mercilessly reveals optical flaws and color errors.
The Canon 35mm f/1.4L II used here appears to be a “good sample”, that is it shows symmetry in performance across the frame.
Includes images up to 24 megapixels from f/1.4 through f/13, along with extensive crops and detailed analysis.
I’m prepared to recommend the 35/1.4 L II for Canon users. It is no Otus, but it is very fine lens. For what its price and size/weight and autofocus, those looking for a 35mm lens will want to upgrade to this new model and it will be the AF lens of choice for Canon users. Note that while my Canon 35mm f/1.4L is for sale, I won’t immediately be buying the Canon 35mm f/1.4L II at my budget does not allow for it at present. And while it is a lens I’d like to own, my priority is the unique Canon 11-24mm f/4L.
