Typically, when I take a trip overseas I will rent a duplicate of my camera body as a backup. I have the rental body arrive two days before I leave the country so that I have plenty of time to carefully duplicate my settings on the rental camera body.

Nikon DSLRs let settings be saved as a file at the top level of the card. Then these can just be loaded into another camera by inserting the card. Sony and most other vendors makes this a huge headache by offering no such option.
