Canon EOS R5: Wildly Varying Evaluative Auto Exposure

I had wondered why I was getting such bizarre exposure results with the Canon EOS R5.

The Canon EOS R5 has erratic and therefore unreliable evaluative auto exposure.Erratic because the algorithm couples point of focus to heavily weight the auto exposure algorithmeven if focusing is not done. Leading to wildly variable exposures with recompositino or change of focus point, even if no focusing is done.

Evaluative metering becomes a a def-facto "AF-centric metering" beast, of no consistent behavior. A disaster for landscape shooting. After I figured out what was going on, I abandoned auto exposure and am having to shoot everything with manual exposure.

Canon EOS R5: Erratic/Unreliable Auto Exposure Heavily Coupled to Autofocus Point

I’ve gone through all the custom settings, AF settings, etc. I cannot find any way to unf*ck the auto exposure algorithm.
