Reviewing the Hasselblad X2D-100C When Available

Hasselblad X2D 100C

re: Announced: Hasselblad X2D-100C with 100 Megapixel Sensor, IBIS, Phase-Detect AF

UPDATE: Hasselblad states that the X2D and lenses are “available to order/ship immediately.”

I’ve requested a loaner from B&H Photo for the new Hasselblad X2D 100C and the 38mm/55mm/90mm, my intent being a thorough in-the-field review* in the Eastern Sierra and White Mountains and maybe even some Colorado/Utah stuff.

But... if the Hasselblad gear does not arrive within 10 days or so for my trip, then I will choose something else, possibly various Nikon Nikkor Z lenses instead on the Nikon Z7 II if necessary, but preferably the Nikon Z9 if it can be obtained (seems unobtanium). Or the Leica M11. Other ideas?

Can Hasselblad make 100MP capture a seriously persuasive gain over a 50MP sensor?

What intrigues me about the X2D is just how much the XCD lenses can deliver to a 100MP sensor. While the Fujifilm GFX100S has the same resolution, it is my consistent impression that too many of the GF lenses just do not deliver enough for the sensor potential.

* I’ve been too degraded/weak to consider field work since April 2022, indeed for the majority of the time since July 2020. My 2+ year health long COVID or auto-immune Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis or whatever have been plaguing me have been devastating to my productivity and quality of life. I’ve stayed as positive as I can, but it’s been the most trying experience of my entire life.

I am feeling enough modest strength gains (fractional) that I plan to resume my outdoor activities starting the end of September. I should be able to hike enough to enjoy the autumn season, even if it will be 1/4 or 1/3 of what I could do at full strength. Possibly, the low-dose Naltrexone is working, but the changes are slow enough that I am not sure, and it might just be a slow-onset remission, as has happened 4 times in 2 years.

Thank you for ordering your Hasselblad X2D 100C and new lenses through the links on this site.
