Mt Conness Summit View towards Rainclouds near Mt Dana
I just love how good the Fujifilm GF 55mm f/1.7 WR is for focus stacking.
Too bad this isn’t it—the image is noticeably inferior in outer zones using the Fujifilm GF 35-70mm f/4.5-5.6 here. But for this shot, I needed something wider than 55mm.
Do you like such “vignettes”? It doesn’t seem to drive subscriptions. But I like the storytelling part more than anything and have the increasingly problematic attitude of wanting to be a photographer, not a reviewer...!
Can you spot the 4 hikers? Subscribers can directly view the full 100MP image. I relish the detail capture—and I think there is room for a sensor in the ~150 to 200MP range that would deliver noticeably more detail (with less artifacting), particularly with the 55/1.7.
BTW, this is one of the most enjoyable and scenic climbs you can make, on par with Mt Whitney but much shorter/easier than the Mountaineer’s Route.
As usual I had to shoot an infinity focus frame manually due to the awful Focus BKT bug in the Fujfilm GFX100 II. It was critical for sharpness in the distance.
A gorgeous day for climbing Oct 8 2023, and the first climb I was able to achieve (or contemplate) after a 3+ year battle with Long COVID and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, curing myself finally with a non-medical treatment that no doctor ever suggested. And with my heavy metals down too!
