MTF for Leica 35mm f/2 APO-Summicron-SL ASPH
MTF can be measured from a real lens, or computed from a lens design. Leica uses computed MTF which therefore means the graphs are fantasy graphs assuming perfect (impossible) actual lenses. Long experience with a lot of Leica M glass shows that real lenses rarely if ever are fully symmetric across the field, nor do they perform as well as computed charts suggest.
Field shots find damning evidence that the lack of f/2.8 and f/4 MTF charts is of great value in hiding some nasty behavior: while supplying f/2 (most important), Leica fails to supply the two next-most important charts, those for f/2.8 and f/4. All the interesting behavior is over at f/5.6 and f/8 is stupidly useless to understand lens behavior.
