Can the Fujifilm GF 30/3.5 Deliver a Fully Sharp Image with Focus Stacking?
And can the Fujifilm GF 30/3.5 deliver 100-megapixel captures?
Each time I shot the Fujifilm GF 30mm f/3.5 in the field, the outer zones disappointed me by failing to develop anything near the sharpness of the central 2/3 or so. Two lens samples behaved similarly.
Part of the issue is a real/actual depth of field that thins-out considerably in the outer zones, so I wondered if focus stacking might fully or partially overcome this performance disappointment.
Example #1: White Mountains Moonscape
Auto mode was used here for focus stacking frames. In spite of focusing as close to the camera as magnified Live View would allow*, the foreground corners are not sharp even at f/9—a frustrating optical performance stemming from an outrageous usability restriction. For focus stacking—one would frequently have to tilt the camera down to allow focusing close and then recompose—an unacceptable and error-prone time-waster in fast-changing conditions.
