The NEC PA series wide-gamut displays ship with a factory calibration sheet measured with a high-end spectrophotometer at the factory, for the AdobeRGB color spacee.

However, the NEC displays actually cover a considerably wider gamut than AdobeRGB, particularly in the reds and blues, so your author calibrates for the full display gamut, not wanting to forgo colors well outside AdobeRGB. That’s useful because digital camera files converted from raw format into a wide gamut color space offer brilliant color exceeding the AdobeRGB color gamut. Moreover, today’s printers can print much of that color.
