Samyang 14mm f/2.8 on Sony A7: Four Aperture Series at Pescadero Creek
Samyang 14mm f/2.8 for various brands, about $399 at B&H Photo.
The Samyang 14mm f/2.8 offers a ultrawide angle of view for the Sony A7/A7R. Since it is adapted from a DSLR design it has no ray angle issues, but is length includes (necessarily) a long rear end to account for the backfocal distance of its DSLR mirror box optical design
The 14/2.8 is a manual focus lens with fully manual aperture control—perfect for some types of shooting, inconvenient for others. It is not “chipped”—the camera does not know which lens, which aperture, etc; no EXIF data is communicated (which is the same as mounting a lens via lens adapter).
In Guide to Mirrorless under the Sony A7/A7R section are four aperture series with HD and UltraHD images for all apertures along with generously sized crops:
- Aperture Series: Sedges and Pool
- Aperture Series: Creek and Pool, Low View
- Aperture Series: Up the Creek
- Aperture Series: Around the Mossy Green Boulder
Also added is one more series with the Samyang 24mm f/1.4 Cine lens.
