Shootout: Leica M Monochrom Typ 246 vs Leica M Typ 240
Get Leica M Monochrom Typ 246 at B&H Photo.
I was curious as to how the Leica M Monochrom Typ 246 would compare to the Leica M Typ 240 in terms of detail rendition. Both cameras utilize the same underlying sensor technology, the difference is that the M240 overlays a CFA (color filter array, a Bayer matrix sensor) whereas the MM246 omits this CFA for a pure monochrome sensor.
This scene was chosen for its invariant lighting and preponderance of very fine detail that is right at the limits of sensor resolution. No filters were used; this is clear mid-day harsh lighting. It puts both cameras to a severe test.
