Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM Aperture Series for Bokeh / Visual Impact: Aspen Trunks at Rock Creek
Get Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM at B&H Photo, and see my Sony wish list.
This comparison evaluates the overall visual impact of the Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM. The term “visual impact” is preferable to saying “bokeh” because visual impact takes into account not only bokeh, but also macro and micro contrast, lens aberrations, secondary color correction, vignetting.
Two series are shown: one without vignetting correction and one with vignetting correction. Since vignetting consists of two forms (optical vignetting and natural vignetting), and optical vignetting quickly disappears with stopping down, the vignetting seen at f/2.8 and beyond is all about natural vignetting. Ideally, the raw converter would allow correction only for optical vignetting.
Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM Aperture Series: Aspen Trunks at Rock Creek
Includes images from f/1.4 through f/16 up to 28 megapixels, both corrected and uncorrected for vignetting.
This series complements Staggered Tree Trunks by using a stronger blur differential between foreground and background.
