Nikon D850 vs Nikon D810: Comparing Night Shots

See my Nikon wish list and get Nikon D850 at B&H Photo.

See my growing review of the Nikon D850 in Advanced DSLR.

The Noise: 30 Seconds, 3-stop Underexposure (Rock Creek, Late Dusk) page raised serious doubts about the performance of the Nikon D810 for extended exposures, showing excessive noise.

I’ve now shot the D850 side by side with the D810 in a 15 minute exposure, and everything makes sense as to was is seen in that D850 Rock Creek exposure—the results support the idea that the D850 should give pause to night shooters that routinely underexpose (almost a given for mny shots).

Shootout: Nikon D850 vs Nikon D810, Early Night

I consider this example definitive; the shooting conditions were too close to allow for any error, the RawDigger data backs that up, and the difference is dramatic.
